Dana Center Role
Leah oversees the recruitment and hiring process for AmeriCorps members who serve as early literacy tutors with Literacy First, a program of the Center dedicated to ensuring that all students learn to read by the end of second grade, allowing them to realize their full potential. She participates in outreach initiatives with local colleges, universities, and community organizations to connect with potential candidates and promote Literacy First’s mission.
Before Joining the Dana Center
Leah served for two years in AmeriCorps before spending nine years as a high school social studies teacher in Austin. Drawing on her educational background and her transformative AmeriCorps experience, Leah recruits and inspires new tutors to join Literacy First, empowering them to make a meaningful impact on early literacy in the community.
