Dana Center Role

Cristina serves as a senior bilingual academic program coordinator for Literacy First, a program of the Center dedicated to ensuring that all students learn to read by the end of second grade, allowing them to realize their full potential. Her duties include supporting the program’s expansion and training Literacy First tutors and partner coaches to implement the Literacy First tutoring model in school districts across Central Texas. Cristina also designs, plans, and facilitates professional learning opportunities for teachers, as well as develops Spanish intervention curriculum.

Before Joining the Dana Center

Cristina brings over 20 years of experience in education as a bilingual elementary school teacher, student teacher facilitator, instructional coach, and elementary literacy curriculum specialist. She worked in both public and charter schools, where she trained and supported novice and veteran teachers in literacy intervention and core reading and writing instruction.
