OpenSciEd Middle School Units Now Available
The first OpenSciEd units for grades 6-8 are now available, after extensive field testing in ten states. OpenSciEd was launched to ensure any science teacher, anywhere, can access and download freely available, high-quality, and locally adaptable full-course materials.
The new units have been designed to meet the specifications of the Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards.
OpenSciEd Professional Learning
In addition to the new instructional units, the Dana Center is offering professional learning services to support science teachers and administrators. We flexibly adapt these services in collaboration with states and districts, tailoring learning experiences to address the needs and context of each system.
Experiences to support implementation of OpenSciEd, as well as other NGSS-aligned instructional materials, include:
- Using anchoring phenomena and other storyline routines
- Creating an equitable and inclusive student learning environment
- Understanding NGSS and 3-dimensional teaching and learning
- Monitoring student thinking through formative assessments
